Thank you Jill Hennessy, the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, for funding Newport Power Football Club and Western Athletics requests for community shade grants as I requested in the last Parliamentary sitting. A total of $8,000 in grants has been provided!
But these weren't the only organisations funded. In my electorate of Western Metropolitan, Keilor Tennis Club, St Albans Saints Soccer Club, Western Radio Broadcasts Incorporated, Altona Life Saving Club, Hyde Street Youth Band, Western Crusaders Gridiron Club, Essendon District Aquatic, Essendon Maribyrnong Park Ladies Cricket Club, Point Cook Netball Club and Rhino's Rugby Union Club, amongst others, were all successful in receiving community shade grants! That's a total of $35,000 in grants!
Australia has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Australians diagnosed of skin cancer by the age of 70. That's what makes these grants so important because shade as a sun protection measure alone can reduce overall exposure to UV radiation by up to 75 percent.
I congratulate all of the successful applicants.
