The Victorian Government is helping families in Darley access bigger, better kindergarten services. Western Metropolitan MP Cesar Melhem today visited Darley Early Years Hub in Darley to open the new centre.
The $4.15 million integrated children's centre provides facilities for three- and four-year-old kindergarten programs, playgroups, Maternal and Child Health services, a toy library, family services, occasional care, and community space for programs for families and children.
The development involved relocating the existing Lerderderg Kindergarten, Maternal and Child Health, playgroups and occasional care service from the Lerderderg Children's Centre.
The hub has increased places from 102 to 154 in the 4-year-old kindergarten program, and from 20 to 80 in the 3-year-old kindergarten program.
The Victorian Government contributed $1.6 million towards the upgrade, with $2.55 million provided by Moorabool Shire Council.
The Andrews Labor Government is investing $60 million to build and upgrade hundreds of children's centres and kindergartens across Victoria, including $10 million targeted at Melbourne growth areas. Infrastructure projects such as these ensure local children's services have the space and flexibility they need to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early years programs. Children who attend 15 hours per week of preschool do better at school, have improved job prospects and are set up to achieve their full potential.
We are making Victoria the Education State this starts with giving every child a strong start in life. The National Partnership Agreement on Universal Access to Early Childhood Education, which funds 15 hours of preschool per week is due to run out this year.
