On March 26th 2021 I joined the Minister for Health Martin Foley MP and my colleagues Katie Hall MP and Jill Hennessy MP to get construction underway on the new Footscray Hospital.
This new state of the art hospital will provide over 500 beds allowing the treatment of an additional 15,000 patients and an extra 20,000 emergency department patients.
Construction of the project will back local skills and jobs development. This includes employing more than 2,000 people at peak construction times and utilising more than 90 per cent locally sourced materials, services and equipment. Once complete operation of the new hospital will also support over 250 ongoing local jobs.
This project will also boost skill and training development by participating in the Andrew's Government Big Build Apprenticeships program. Accordingly, this project will provide opportunities for 70 apprentices and trainees to get practical on the job work experience under their belt.
It is great to see the Andrew's Government backing local skills and jobs in delivering another first-class hospital for the West.
